Application
Neomycin is used in molecular biology as a selection agent for prokaryotic cells that have been transformed using the selectable marker gene (neo). It is also used to study ototoxic side effects of antibiotics, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) responses in C3H/10T1/2 C18 fibroblasts, and extraction of Nuclear Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-Bisphosphate-Interacting Proteins 1,2,3. Product N1876 is supplied as a powder.

【性状】该品为白色或类白色的粉末；无臭；极易引湿；水溶液显右旋光性。该品在水中极易溶解，在乙醇、乙醚、丙酮或氯仿中几乎不溶。

鉴别　　
1、 取该品约10mg，加水1ml 溶解后，加盐酸溶液（9→100） 2ml，在水浴中加热10分钟，加8 %氢氧化钠溶液2ml 与2 %乙酰丙酮水溶液1ml ，置水浴中加热 5 分钟，冷却后，加对二甲氨基苯甲醛试液1ml ，即显樱桃红色。 　　
2、 取该品与新霉素标准品，分别加水制成每1ml中含20mg的溶液。照薄层色谱法（附录Ⅴ B）试验，吸取上述两种溶液各1μl，分别点于同一硅胶H薄层板（硅胶H1.5g用 0.25%羧甲基纤维素钠溶液6ml 调浆制板）上，以甲醇－醋酸乙酯－丙酮－8.8%醋酸铵溶液（25:15:10:40） 为展开剂，展开后，晾干，在110 ℃干燥20分钟，乘热喷以10%次氯酸钠溶液，将薄层板于通风处冷却片刻，再喷碘化钾淀粉溶液（0.5%淀粉溶液100ml中含碘化钾0.5g），立即检视。供试品溶液所显主斑点的颜色和位置应与标准品溶液的主斑点相同。
