This product is soluble in water (133 mg/ml), yielding a clear, colorless solution. The pH of aqueous KI solutions is neutral to slightly alkaline. This product is also soluble in alcohol, glycerol, and glycol.
白色立方结晶或粉末。在潮湿空气中微有吸湿性，久置析出游离碘而变成黄色，并能形成微量碘酸盐。光及潮湿能加速分解。1g溶于0.7ml水、0.5ml沸水、22ml乙醇、8ml沸乙醇、51ml无水乙醇、8ml甲醇、7.5ml丙酮、2ml甘油、约2.5ml乙二醇。其水溶液呈中性或微碱性，能溶解碘。其水溶液也会氧化而渐变黄色，可加少量碱防止。相对密度3.12。熔点680℃。沸点1420℃。广泛用于容量分析碘量法中配制滴定液。单倍体育种中配制伯莱德斯、改良怀特、MS和RM等培养基。粪便检验等。
